Referral service, not a contractor. Prevent Home Leaks does not perform plumbing, leak repair, or water damage restoration. Calls to (855) 555-0100 are connected to an independent, licensed local provider, who may pay us for the referral. Always confirm the provider's license and get a written estimate. How this works

High water pressure: a hidden cause of leaks

Pressure that's too high strains supply lines, valves, water heaters, and appliance hoses, and can shorten their lives. Plumbing codes commonly require a pressure-reducing valve (PRV) when street pressure exceeds 80 psi. Confirm local code with a licensed plumber.

Test it yourself

  1. Buy an inexpensive pressure gauge that threads onto a hose bib.
  2. With no water running in the house, screw it onto an outdoor spigot or the washer valve and open the valve fully.
  3. Read the static pressure. Check again at different times of day, since pressure is often higher overnight.

What the reading means

Pairs well with a meter leak test and checking your water heater.
